Day 187 (of 187) every school year has its song

Just like there is a “song of the summer” I find there is always a song that resonates with my time in a school. It’s also why it is so hard for me to hear Fireflies by Owl City because of how closely I associate it with a specific school.

Some songs that resonate with me are “Shut up and Dance” – especially as it became the song played at a whole school surprise “bye bye” dance party on the last day at one school.

This year there were two that strongly resonated with the new school community I joined. The late contender was Old Town Road – especially as during our Year In Review video the students singing drowned out the music coming out of the speaker (and I was right beside the speaker)

But for me, this year will be the Baby Shark year. Everyone connected with it – from the singing to the actions we could do with our arms. It made everyone smile and was even a song at our grade 7 dances that got everyone moving….weird that an ear worm like that would be the one to connect with the year, but that’s one of the funnest parts of education – you can’t really predict what will happen next!

Baby shark doo doo da doo doo!
