Day 108 (of 186) clear feedback via #CrossCurrents18

 

Friday was a big Pro-D day – not provincial, but once upon a time, a “zone focused” opportunity – a chance to bring neighbouring districts closer to alignment in their ongoing learning….something that gets practiced less and less – but still inaccurately referred to as a ‘regional pro-d day’ – but kind of like Family Day (until net year) sometimes mis-aligned as my kids had the day “off” but their cousins did not!

 

 

Friday was also an opportunity for me to share some of my work and thinking around Anxiety in Education (but really all Mental Wellness) and I was forewarned by the conference head honcho (who used to be my LRT – learning resource teacher – in another district) that I had a big group….

 

…and a break in the middle of our sharing time…..

 

 

So of course the feedback would be immediate – how many would return after the first half: which is something I do encourage – if you are not getting what your thought you were going to….listen to the social media ‘back channel’ and make a different choice!

 

But after a coffee and muffin re-fuel….everyone came back!

 

And during the break and after the final slide, educators were still coming up with their personalized questions and scenarios (I promote stopping me along the way and questioning me immediately but only a couple brave souls took me up on that!) and one even shared a shoutout from a colleague who I did some eportfolio piloting/pirating with to start the move in our province to shift away from the overly dated “report cards”

 

It was nice to share how my practice continues to evolve thanks to the insights from my son who is better and better able to reflect on his own anxiety – and classroom explorations that have enabled a student who regularly missed a “day each week” to help with her anxiety only misses school under protest (such as illness or cross country event) this year.

 

It’s not always easy – but it is ongoing…..
