Day 91 (of 186) my son started term 2 with a plan….even after a false start!
It’s not a secret that my son and “traditional school” haven’t gotten along too well – being told a school has “tried everything” will only confirm that. So it was with some surprise that when I picked him up, he told me that he kinda hoped he has an essay to write this term. Why? Well….
A huge success for him though; especially after the day (new term) started with him being told to follow his old schedule -not the new one he was prepped for. Anxiety set in and there were several phone calls home.
He chatted with the school Counsellor and independently reset himself to go to his (confirmed) second block class -where he reconnected with another student that he likes! So he saw that he didn’t die (always a consideration when anxiety strikes) and that he could reset himself and have a successful day. He still didn’t like the day because of how it started, but we saw that his brain was able to still do comedy (Love white font letters to increase a word count) and be helpful and regulate himself to bar successful after a false start to the day!
So good that he is finding a team of educators willing to work with him to help him find his place in the school learning community culture!
