Day 34 (of 185) after a pro-d day….use it or lose it
I had some neat conversations about the various opportunities that BC Educators had the opportunity to take part in on the third Friday in October (a provincial professional development day). With every provincial specialist association hosting events, and districts putting on many different events as well, there is always an amazing range of learning opportunities…
But…..(the but means that while everything written before it is nice, what follows is actually what matters)
I am reminded that if you don’t use a new skill, you will lose it.
I have regularly been reminded that if you attend a professional learning event and learn something that you find interesting, you have a limited amount of time to put it into practice or you will either devalue it, or forget how to effectively introduce it. But there has to be meaning and value for the time to be assigned to it….right?
I mean, imagine if all we did was tell people information to remember and never any chance to put it into practice…
hope I don’t have to do a multiple choice test on what I was supposed to remember while on professional learning…..!
