Day 179 (of 183) holding a fire in a paper bag

Day 179 (of 183) holding a fire in a paper bag

That’s the phrase a friend of mine used (and I frequently use as well) when a secret (that can’t be kept a secret) is trying to be kept – and we have to use it frequently when ‘secrets’ in education are ‘found out about’ prior to a ‘formal announcement’.

Whenever I think of these types of secrets, I never doubt that information is going to be shared – not because it’s gossip, but because our profession is based on relationships. And anytime relationships are being changed, people -as social animals- need to share to gauge others reactions to see if there is a shared reaction.

As David Bowie put it (change happens)
Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Turn and face the strange

Ch-ch-changes

Don’t want to be a richer man

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

Turn and face the strange

Ch-ch-changes

There’s gonna have to be a different man

Time may change me

But I can’t trace time

Over time, the ‘secrets’ rarely turn out to be of great long-lasting importance. And most of them me it is around creating ‘time’ to enable people to adjust to what is changing. And you can’t always control all changes……and sometimes the puzzle that you’re working on doesn’t get completed. More to follow……
