Day 173 (of 183) am I your favourite?

Day 173 (of 183) am I your favourite?

Had one of my little grade ones come up and declare: I’m your favourite student, aren’t I?

Love that a) students think I have a favourite and b) most of them think it’s them.

But absolutes are never absolute. I’m happy my own kids at home know the answer to my usual question about friends…..”does best mean ‘one’?”. I use that question because early in my career I had a debate with a grade 7 girl who firmly believed that “best friends” mean one to the exclusion of all others. I much prefer “best” to be a descriptor rather than a definition.

Do I have favourites? Absolutely. And it might not be the students that first come to mind. I know it also depends on the day (and often on the time of day). Because “favourite” doesn’t just mean “one”! (but it was sure nice to be asked/told!)
