Day 170 (of 183) prep-work

Day 170 (of 183) prep-work

Today was the day before our District Track &  Field event for our grade 4-7 students.

Tonight one of my teachers pointed out: Our job is never done. Go to bed.

It’s a tricky balance: prep work. There are only so many variables that can be anticipated and at a certain point we have to trust the process and be ready….even if you’re not 100% sure (are we ever?)

Today’s track and field prep blended the usual: changes of participants in events, worries around our concession (1st world problem!) and reassuring the team that things are set and ready (or at least ready enough).

It also included the unexpected: hot weather. Makes the field set up a bit tougher for the ‘usual suspects’ – five educators who year after year can be counted on to move soccer nets (sidebar- our soccer association started putting a wheel unit onto the bottom of the nets – now moveable by a single person!!)  set up barricades (thanks to our friends in the city works yard across the fence) and re-shovel the sand pits etc etc etc. And it became clear – the heat will be a factor on all members of tomorrow’s activity.

A good days work; actually a number of days slowly building up to the big event. A team that does more work than any one person could. All focused to help students have a day of fun and choice athletic competition. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
