Day 129 (of 183) Welcome Graduating Class of 2029
That is what was on the sign outside of our school as we welcomed kindergartens to register for their official start to their education experience.
(even had one of our district drivers stop by and give me the thumbs up for the sign)
What to expect? – is it to “reality-tv” to say ‘expect the unexpected’? With a revamped/renewed/redone curriculum for our province…things will look and feel different….or at least the difference for this generations learning compared to the generations before is being acknowledged.
The shift towards “communicating ongoing learning journeys” as opposed to ‘benchmarks based on age’ is being more accepted/acknowleged – and comparisons to an “average” are becoming more of a ‘guideline’ (more coming from a review of the Todd Rose “End of Average” book http://www.amazon.com/The-End-Average-Succeed-Sameness/dp/0062358367
The focus on the “how and why and what” that impacts learning is gaining more weight than the final scores. It won’t be enough for our new kindys to “try harder” – the feedback needs to be more descriptive – more personalized.
It’s a great time to be in education. There is more collaboration than ever before – not just within schools, but between districts and asynchronously via social media. With the changes that have already influenced the school system in the previous five years….I can’t wait to see what it looks like when our kindy’s reach graduation – and what grad may be like!
