Day 125 (of 183) natural deadlines aka spring break

Day 125 (of 183) natural deadlines aka spring break

When it comes to deadlines, I like the ‘real’ ones. When there is a natural break or end. In our case Spring Break. Most of my staff is using eportfolios so learning is communicated on an ongoing basis….but the couple still using report cards needed to have them out with enough time that parents could contact them before spring break…..
Sidebar: had a parent ask his sons teacher if she could give home a traditional report card. I said I would create it because, sadly, I can essentially write a report card without seeing students individual work. I verbalized what I would expect and the teacher agreed. That’s why I want to move away from report cards because I can’t replicate an eportfolios of students learning.

Back on topic 😜 we had an assembly to end the day with a dance performance by a class (student teacher led initiative) and a bridge weight test competition. Performances = ultimate deadline. Parents were there. Many of our families had already even snuck out for an early start to our spring break – but for the majority, today was THE day.

I do a month-in-review video compilation http://www.sor.sd83.bc.ca/months%20in%20review
and that’s a hard deadline. If it’s not ready……ugh. But when it all comes together it leads to a fun assembly to end off the season……both despite and because of ‘deadlines’…..
