Day 115 (of 183) for want of a mark

Day 115 (of 183) for want of a mark
After helping assess some standardized tests, I always appreciate the conversations that always come up around how numbers don’t tel, the whole story of a students work and learning. How a “2” on a 1-4 scale can be “too broad” yet sometimes “exactly right”. Made me do some thinking, because a 100-point system isn’t any clearer than a 4 point range.

It’s only one mark…

For lack of a mark an assignment wasn’t passed.

Because of a poor assignment a units average dropped.

A unit average impacted a term final mark.

A term final mark led to a final percentage of 85.4999%

A “B” instead of an “A” led to a scholarship being missed.

A missed scholarship led to an end of a learning journey.

Sometimes numbers don’t tell enough of the story.
