Day 31 (of 183) an adventure (getting ready for pro-d) with thanks to @daisydyerduerr & @rayzahab

Adventure. Tonight to kick off our Connecting Leaders conference with @bcpvpa members, we had Ray Zahab – an ultra-marathoner (ie 1000 km across a desert)  had a key comment: when you’re on your feet, you see things that you can only see when you are on the ground.

Opportunities to meet people and make connections. Sharing and communicating experiences. And you can be as far away as you can, as isolated as you can imagine, but still be in contact with others (Ray broadcasts to classrooms even when he was in Antarctica)

and how powerful technology can be as a connector….

and how powerful “personal decisions” can be – from a first ultra marathon and wanting to give up….but keep on keeping on…

and how good (and empowering) it can feel when we don’t underestimate ourselves.

which leads me to @daisydyerduerr – who I first encountered via twitter chats at #arkedchat and over the past months/years an asynchronous friendship has started – even though she’s in a part of the US I have never been, I now want to because of the fabulous ideas and innovations educators there are working on! and today I got to welcome her on her first visit to Canada …. she models that “keep on keeping on” mindset each day. An educational leader who uses tech to connect. To communicate. To encourage educators not to underestimate ourselves. To be willing to go an a learning adventure each day.

It would have been easy for the #arkedchat community to dismiss the Canadian who kept commenting on what was going on in education….but they didn’t….they were willing to see where things might go!

There’s so many ways that ‘an adventure’ can be described – but the best part is that often where an adventure takes you can’t be planned! And the challenges and successes can be so intensely personal! Ray explored the Sahara runningthesahara.com  Daisy is exploring being a lead educator without a school (consulting and being with her family). I started an adventure by being part of the planning committee for Connecting Leaders….where it will go…. to be determined! and that’s the best part!
