SoL 4 (Summer of Learning) 4th day at #bcpvpa ShortCourse: legal aka “what were you thinking”

Today we spent some time talking about the legal implications of the educational leadership connection to legalities. It’s always tricky but in my experience the key phrase I come back to is: “what were you thinking?”  Not in a mocking sarcastic way (usually) but in a mindset/mindful way – whether stressed or calm, if there was time to think & process or rely on instincts – what state was/is your mind in when you are making decisions.

The parting reminder to “be nice to everyone” also reminded me of a recent article about how difficult it can sometimes be to be a principal who makes “kind” decisions http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2013/05/22/what-has-changed-is-that-it-is-harder-for-us-to-be-nice-to-kids-departing-veteran-principal
Mindset is always important as a PVP – be mindful of how and why you make your decisions – and always keep “kids first”.
