Day 138 (of 188) reward the rat

Day 138 (of 188) reward the rat

so….a student stormed out of the classroom…..really mad. Went to the library, hood pulled low over his face. I was right behind him thanks to a quick text from his teacher.

Was he frustrated about the class work? Nope. Noise? Nope.

He was mad because another student was a rat. The other student had pointed out that he had a set of headphones from our computer lab. (Old lab with some older programs that can be rather loud when 24 are all on different screens) – but that plan doesn’t work if the headphones are missing.

But he was MAD that he was “ratted out”. Even though I pointed out that the student actually helped us by getting him OUT of trouble (by stealing them and taking them home).  We talked a bit about word choices. He was mad because his attempted ‘poor decision’ was thwarted. And if students are “rats” for helping prevent things ‘walking away’ then I will reward the rat…every.single.time.
