Day 119 (of 188) concert night! aka summative/formative test combo
I tease about testing a lot. A LOT. Especially end of year-final-all-encomPASSing-have-to-do-it-cause-the -teacher-down-the-hall-insists-on-one finals.
Tests. Quaint – but necessary? As a History/English major I didn’t do many multiple choice T/F projects beyond K-12….
But I’m not against meaningful summative assessments; we do a lot of practice for sports teams to allow us to play ‘real’ games. My daughter does a lot of practice on her trombone to perform at her school concerts – that’s right – plural. The summative (recorded) test of one concert gives them feedback on what they can do different ‘next time’. Celebrate the great moments (some fabulous solos) and tidy up some of the squeaks. Because even if one song doesn’t go well and needs a restart, that’s okay because as Freddy Mercury sang Queen – The Show Must Go On (Official Video) – YouTube
