Day 98 (of 188) the ballad of learning opportunities (thanks @YongZhaoUO )

Day 98 (of 188) the ballad of learning opportunities

Innovation and Personalization seem to be the key
Yet easier said than put into action
Moving learning beyond rote memory of abc/123
To seek ways to better learning satisfaction

The strife and moral professional confusion
As educators seek ways to change swift
To overcome the grade and percentage illusion
And journey into a paradigm shift

When one daughters Friday learning is skiing
Dressed as a pirate to get a reaction
Cross country adventures with outside learning
And putting practice into authentic action

Whereas another stayed up late into the night
Transcribing a play by the bard into a comic strip
Worried she illustrated enough to get an A all right
And not risking her average with a metaphorical trip

Then a son whose learning journey is complex
With anxiety impacting his output in traditional means
And fears by others already about ‘next years’ effects
While he feels he already has leaned all he needs

The three have differences that are not small
In clothing, passion and learning in/out of class
How can one size fit all
When past experience is no guarantee of the nexts success

And now we seek to establish schools of innovation
Taking many ‘secret projects’ out of the shadow
So learning can break free of tradition
And having stuck mindsets let go

Because while we learning to change fast
Which will make some shake with fear
As schools of tomorrow will barely resemble the past
The truth is – they’re already here…

Those who can, do…those who can’t….test?
If we don’t learn from the past are we doomed to repeat?
We can be better than the rest
For generations teachers have wanted something more neat

Those who can, do…those who can’t – do different
There have always been pockets of radicals doing best
No longer having to hide and be patient
Now it’s time to catch up by the rest

* BC is seeking schools to test and evaluate new education models

They don’t have to seek – they just need to let them self-identify
