One thing – more uncomfortable than it may first sound – don’t say NO to students, but do say NO to ‘other pressures’. I am encouraging a ‘culture of yes’ in my school inspired in no small part to the work of @chrkennedy – the superintendent of west vancouver and supported in large part to the work of @gborthis my superintendent at #83learns – but it is difficult when parents want “more homework” et al (esp when they are ‘going away for a month’) but I am happy to say that the work being done in my school “cannot be easily duplicated onto a ream of paper” – schooling is different now than it was in the previous millennium and a paradigm of change (the least of which is my push to communicate student learning via eportfolio instead of reporting student achievement on report cards) is here.  Now.
