Day 24 (of 188) restarting #geniushour

Even after a decade of “passion projects” 20% time, #geniushour (I’ve gone through a variety of names over the years) I still get excited to get this learning time going.

In part because it’s exciting to see students own their learning.

In part because I like getting the ‘bumpiness’ over.

There are ‘other adults’ (ie CEAs) I need to reassure that just because a bunch of students are ‘wasting time’ that it’s okay. I like telling my crew of 10 year olds to enjoy finding what they love but to also appreciate learning what they don’t love. I’ve gone down this path a couple of times – I know we’ll have some problems and struggles along the way, and I’m good with that!

It’s one thing to say you love playing guitar, quite another to do the Malcolm Gladwell 10 000 hours.

But it all starts with the first hour.
