SOL 6: moving on from @bcpvpa #shortc

What’s going on in schools today is fantastic. The experiences for our kids across the province is extraordinary. We have amazing educational leaders in our province and not all of them wear a title of principal or vice-principal!

The 2014 ShortCourse was inspiring and mentally exhausting. The brain was always ‘on the go’. But some of my key takeaways at the end of the week:

No need to change schools because they are disasters, but because it’s about better meeting the needs of all learners. Doing same things better is not enough. Need to do things differently.

When considering how importane leadership is, as @thescienceguy would say: consider the following:

Flip the hierarchy-triangle-structure upside down. Balancing on the tip means changes/decisions can tilt the entire system (not filtered as it sifts to the base)

And then….
Imagine teaching competences (outcomes which are demonstrated) without ‘subject headings’….. You know – make secondary more like elementary….and elementary a bit more like secondary (ie math specialists).

It was an amazing week and I know I learned as much (and arguably more) than the cohort group I was working with. I do know that by the time I got home, I slept till noon (with a slight wake up for a bit of a lurk on #satchatwc) – mental exhaustion! Now I’m ready for summer to start!
