Day 145 (of 184) TARDIS
Yes, I am a Dr. Who fan – the show inspired me to transform my math sessions (I am a teaching principal 2x a week with a G4/5 class) into a “Recreational Math” class after a throwaway line in the episode “42” (and yes, I’m a Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy fan too…) if you’re not – be thankful that there is google to help guide you to awesomeness and understanding “the ultimate answer to life the universe and everything”.
At this time of year (now that spring seems to finally have taken hold – though shorts are still for the optimist) Time seems to be fleeting. The connection to TARDIS is that in Dr Who, it stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space – essentially it is a time machine that can travel anywhere. And time and distance seems to be blending together WAY too much right now.
Everything seems to be focusing on this time of year increasing tension and pressure. I had a meeting with a number of other principals talking about the end of the school year and adding events to “an already super busy schedule”. Specifically can a social event be planned on the last weekend where so much TIME is being taken up on so many tasks – everything from the 40-60 hours to deal with report cards (at this point I did quietly mention to the principals nearest me how attractive the ongoing nature of eportfolios looks now….); and prepping and planning for an end-of-the-year assembly; and track & field; and grade 5 camping trips; and Fun Days; and……you get the idea.
At the same time there are extracurriculars impacting time as well. Basketball (for our family 3x a week an hourish out of town) and swimming for another kids and…..well, if you have kids you know the drill….
Then there are the meetings and the Relative Dimensions In Space where it can feel that I need to be in two places at the same time…but I’ve seen too many movies about cloning-gone-bad…
Then there is the mathematical craziness (aka patterns) that can appear both with The Doctor and with real life: for example May 23 is looming as the craziest day with basketball swimming principaling parenting husbanding and likely a few other ‘lives’ all coming into conflict. May is the fifth month; 2+3=5. 5+5=10…..I’m thinking it’s more than just coincidence….;-)
Thank goodness for the support network both real (at school and home) and virtual (asynchronous PLN) where energy can be restored (I always feel recharged after an interesting conversation or #chat via twitter – even if it’s only for a few minutes). There is no way that one person can deal with everything on their own. That’s probably why The Doctor always has a companion on his own journey…
