Day 20 (of 184) 10%
The end of September (and blog 20 of 184) indicates slightly more than 10% of the school year has flown by. Time for some reflection:
Genius Hour and eportfolios are fully started and gaining momentum.
The 90 minute SOLE (self organized learning environment) continues to gain momentum – both in terms if ‘on-task’ time and ‘present what you learned’ time. Following @sugaram ‘s research, students have researched and reported on a variety of topics based on science and socials learning outcomes.
My push/introduction/creation of recreational mathematics is starting to at least have students rethink what they thought they thinked about mathematics. At least we are working math without always involving numbers!
Students from a variety of classes have been coming to me and sharing success stories of tools used via our Self Regulation Model Classroom. So far the ‘biggest hits’ have been:
Noise cancelling headphones
Weighted Lap frogs
Quiet zones on classroom
School wide slow breathing
Voice amplification systems
(Hmmmm sending a theme…)
Also loved students popping in to show samples of their working successfully with technology (typing vs pen & paper) and byod approaches by students to own how they will present their learning. (I had a lot of students ‘see’ the wifi hubs that were installed on Friday – now we just need a cable to connect to the school).
And we finally have our media tech centres in each classroom – digital projector with a wired connection to an ipad (Apple TV next?) with a DVD/VHS player (to allow resources from our DRC to still be used) and speaker systems. A few are connected to voice amplification systems – based on the earlier connection between sounds and self-regulation/anxiety, that may change to ‘all’ sooner rather than later…
Not a bad first 10%!
