Day 6 (of 184) relationships

Day 6 (of 184)

Relationships. Truly key in any successful learning environment. As quickly as we would like these relationships to take root, we have to remember that also required is: time.

We do need to remember that education is more of a marathon than a sprint. There are no shortcuts to building relationship and gaining the trust needed to create an effective learning community.

But each minute is precious – whether its between children, children and adults, and/or adults on their own – in building a relationship. Positive interactions are important but all too often…

It’s the interpretation that sometimes counts over the intention.

A student telling another that they need alone time (or are they excluding them)

Teachers collaborating (or avoiding each other)

Parents planning a play date (or talking about the principal)

An adult helping a student understand a situation (or getting them in trouble)

Everyday there are opportunities to work on relationships. I remind myself (and others) not to rush. Take the time to understand so as to be better understood…..and ensure the relationships are positive…..to the betterment of the entire learning community.
