Media (not just social)

Recently some of the work our school has done with technology was featured in our local newspaper:

It’s always tough to fully articulate the work a school does. The success of a school is so reliant on the work of the entire learning community.

In a time where there is so much discussion about the role of media (social and otherwise) it is great to see that local newspapers are still interested in being a connection between the school and the community.

I am looking forward to seeing how the relationship between schools and media evolves – from twitter feeds to podcasts and blogs to newspapers and newsletters; there are so many ways that schools can be connecting to their larger community. So far my school has:
a podcast on its website : Sorrento
a unique twitter feed at: @sorrento83
constant contact with our local newspaper: Shuswap Market News
Biweekly newsletters
And we are thinking about Facebook (but only after we get some new media release forms filled in!)

I’m looking forward to seeing how our movement into mobile technology will continue to enhance our school-community communications!
