iPad day 24 – anticipations

Tis the season for great anticipation and wishes and wondering!

My own anticipation has been focused on how mobile devices will impact (disrupt) education – and curious how different devices would support our learners!

My wish for students to take greater ownership over their learning has definitely been tied in with the introduction of the tablets – today a student was working out a justification for playing an app called ‘plague’ during a Friday math-game session.

Some of my wonderings around how accepting the learning community would be of the technological disruptions have also been answered – having teachers looking at way to integrate videos into their lessons; using the devices for networking; and seeing the devices as ways to create content as much as consume it.

As an educational leader, the technology integration has allowed me to work in many ways – both leading ‘on the dance floor’ and ‘from the balcony’ – leading the push, but also finding ways to support the initiatives from the entire learning community!

It is enjoyable to see how these tools are disrupting education – and disrupting it for the good: not distracting educators (with the occasional late night playing cribbage or other such apps) but focusing discussion on supporting our diverse leaders!

Now we continue to explore how technology personalizes education while ensuring the right tool is in the right (or left) hand of the right user!
