iPad day 23 – revelations

Sometimes morning conversations are very revealing!
A couple of us are planning a book study and I proposed that we use a digital book. One of my staff was very enthused but made an interesting point regarding digital reading. She used to read a lot on her iPhone (something I connect to as I’m reading Game of Thrones on my ‘pocketbook’ – I liken my iPhone to a paperback book) but now that she is using an iPad, it has ruined her iPhone experience.

She finds reading on the iPad a much more enjoyable experience. Likewise for using the Internet. Even more importantly, her ‘Luddite’ husband who asks the kids to turn the home computer on for him, loves the iPad experience. He finds it easy and while he is so far just ‘consuming’ informations, my staffmember things he could start creating content as well!

Of course now she is really pushing me to get a wifi installation date so that she can work with her primaries in the classroom because they find the computer lab ‘difficult’ – not the machines as much as the static environment. Interesting. Might be time to preorder our first 5-pack for small group use (even before wifi!) especially since reports are showing that (as I have been predicting, and pushing as part of asynchronous learning) app use is on the increase while wifi use is not! Asynchronous learning with www mindset (whatever, wherever, whenever!) it’s a great time to be in education!!
