Day 18 / thinking outside the box

It was great to have one of my parents chase me down because she was so excited about a tool her father-in-law made: a cradle for our iPads to turn them into document cameras! The sample in the staff room was fabulous – a bendable joint allows the ‘elbow’ to suspend it above the document (much steadier than my hand) and it also bends to hold it like an easel – makes it feel very artsy!
The first prototype looks good – but a couple of tweaks to work out before we get one of our high schools to produce a bunch (advance orders?)

It’s also been good to see students – singly, in pairs, and even on small groups- hunched over them and working on the devices. Sometimes editing work, sometimes ‘learning through play’ – minecraft is the current ‘hotspot’ both at home and at the school – very captivating and inspiring collaborative practices and tenaciousness. And learning one of my key ‘pushes’ : what do you do when you don’t know what to do. The learners (young and old) aren’t waiting for in services or manuals or pro-d, they are ‘learning by doing’ / something I’m looking forward to sharing at my final #leadership20 session tonight. That ill be attending on my iPad of course…!
