iPads day 8

Today there was a great sharing of iPad use in our staff room: one of our primary teachers was bragging (in a positive way) that she wanted to help her students prepare for their part in our Remembrance Day Assembly by:
a) recording the students reciting their poem
b) playing back their poems so that they could see and hear themselves
-> this of course allows for both self and peer assessment
–> it also allows for an instant feedback loop
c) having the students continue to practice and improve
—> and she said the students LOVED seeing themselves – they found it very inspiring

Needless to say that this group did an absolutely amazing poetry reading – best I’ve seen from grade ones!

We also had 7 student generated music videos connected to Remembrance Day that used PowerPoint (and made on desktops). The guided release of responsibility is having its impact now as our students are thinking/planning/plotting alternative ways to create original compositions.

But the highlight of the day was the lunchtime discussion about descriptive feedback and instantaneous self and peer assessments to improve student achievement. One device per room has been good….for a start!
