iPads Day 5

Always interesting to go into a staff meeting where you are unsure about where the conversations will go.
We started with a “2 stars and a wish” check in and it was great (and a relief) to hear so many add the iPads to their ‘stars’.
Many different ‘personal goals’ for the next month, ranging from editing video clips (we do a video ‘Month In Review at our monthly recognition assemblies and teachers would like to do similar in their classrooms!) to creating ‘centres’ for student sharing.
It’s great that we are all going down this path together – I had a belief that this would happen, just needed to wait for the opportunity to move down this path: seeing technology used to enhance curriculum – not instead of a teacher, but a seamless tool within/ad a part of a learning community!

‘Our next steps’ are going to be some ‘in service lunches’: with a focus on using Keynote to create graphic-focused gallery supports (fancy way of saying ‘putting words on pictures to support what we are teaching’).

It’s nice to see that ‘playtime’ (or exploration time) is over for many and they want to start practicing how they want to start modelling (as part of the gradual release of responsibility) how we want our students to use these tools (not just ‘to play games’)

‘My next step’ also connects with keynote: I have usually used the app (on my iPhone) to edit the presentation I created on my laptop; tomorrow I show the first ‘strictly app created presentation’ which I will be archiving onto our school website (as we go through it) If it works, the link will be on tomorrow’s blog!

Overall I am thrilled to see how the adults are connecting to these devices to see how they will make a difference with their learners!
